Create a culture of reading within your household

Children often model the behaviour of their parents. Creating a culture of reading within the household would encourage the joy of reading within your child

.

Start Early: Introduce books to your child from a young age, even before they can read independently. Read aloud to them regularly.

Be a Role Model: Let your child see you reading for pleasure. Children often mimic their parents’ behaviour

Make Reading Fun: Choose books that align with their interests and preferences, whether it’s dinosaurs, princesses, or adventure stories.

Discuss Books: Engage your child in conversations about what they’re reading. Ask about their favourite characters, plot twists, or predictions.

Create a Cosy Reading Space: Assign a comfortable and inviting area in your home for reading, with good lighting and a variety of books.

Limit Screen Time: Encourage reading as an option to screen-based entertainment.

Visit the Library: Make regular trips to the library a fun outing. Let your child explore and choose books they want to read.

Set Aside Time: Establish daily reading routine, such as bedtime stories or quiet reading time after school.

Celebrate Achievements Praise your child’s reading efforts and milestones. Consider rewards like a new book or a trip to a bookstore.

Be Patient and Persistent Not every child will take to reading right away. Keep trying different approaches and be patient with their progress..

.

By nurturing a positive environment where reading is enjoyable and valued, you can help your child develop a lifelong love for books and learning.
